Torrevieja, once a small fishing village situated on the beautiful coast of the Costa Blanca, has grown into a multi-national town that has everything to offer tourist’s and resident’s alike.
With just over 2 hours flying time into nearby Alicante from the U.K it’s no wonder more and more people are choosing to call it home.
Strolling along the purpose built paseo in the daytime and at night, you will find an abundance of traditional Spanish tapas bars, international cuisine and fish restaurants, where you can sample locally caught fish and shellfish. If you fancy a few cocktails and some music Torrevieja can deliver, whether it’s a Flamenco show, a Karaoke bar or a disco where you can dance the night away until the sun comes up.
If you are looking for watersports, then look no further, with a purpose built area you can jet-ski, kayak, paddle board and even learn how to wake-board.
An hour away by tourist boat you will find the beautiful island of Tabarca, a wild life reserve with shingly beaches, cosy Spanish restaurants and fabulous snorkeling in the many coves.
Not content with all this Torrevieja also hosts traditional and religious festivals, carnivals and fire work displays throughout the year, so there is always something to entertain you.
If culture is your thing, then why not spend time moseying around the local museums ? Where you can view local and international art. And no time in Torrevieja would be complete without a visit to the stunning Auditorium which is host to Symphony Orchestra’s from the region, International Opera’s, Theatre production’s and even Ice shows.
Said to be ‘One of the healthiest places in the world to live’ due to the natural Salt lakes that surround Torrevieja, a visit to the lakes by tourist train really is a must, particularly in the summer months, when the skies turn pink against the white mountains of salt that are stockpiled, ready to be shipped out to Northern Europe for use in the winter time.
For those of you that like to walk, the natural park areas surrounding the lakes are an ideal place for a walk or cycle, whilst taking in the variety of birds and wildlife that inhabit the area. Finishing of with a dip in the salt lakes themselves, which are renowned for having therapeutic benefits to the skin and for the circulation.
Torrevieja is a great place to live and as it grows, developers are blending their modern apartments with the older more typically Spanish ones, offering something for each individual taste. And if the apartment life isn´t for you, then when not consider the outskirts? Where you can buy a home with a garden, a pool and roof terrace, with views of those salt lakes that make that glass of chilled Sangria so much sweeter.
