Formentera del Segura
Formentera Del Segura is a traditional Spanish village located in the Vega Baja region of Costa Blanca South. It is a lovely village and I am lucky enough to call it home for the last 7 years.
If you are staying or living in Formentera it is not essential to have a car as the village offers everything you could need for day to day living. There is a large Dial Prix Supermarket as well as a couple of small independent grocery stores, a handful of Spanish and English bars with most serving food, a chemist, 2 banks, a bakers, a butchers, a school, a town hall and a doctors. On Monday morning’s the small weekly market offers a great selection of fruit and veg, olives, clothes and household goods.
Formentera has a pretty village square with a bar, which is popular with both the Spanish and the ex-pat community, making it a great place to meet new friends or sit and people watch. This is also where most of the fiestas are held throughout the year.
The Segura River runs through the village and separates Formentera from Benijofar, the river bank offering some lovely walks either to Almoradi or Rojales or across the bridge to Benijofar. The river bank is well cared for and in the spring time offers a beautiful array of roses, which are lovingly maintained by the locals.
Although the village does get busy in the Summer, it remains relatively quiet and with the beautiful beaches of Guardamar only 15 minutes drive away most holiday makers will head there for the day. There is a regular bus service in the village with journeys to Guardamar, Almoradi and Orihuela about 6 times a day or if you are feeling energetic it is possible to cycle to Guardamar.
If you are looking to party then you have some great choices at Los Palacios (also known as disco alley) where you can dance until the sun rises and is located on the edge of Rojales, about a 15 minute walk away. If you would prefer a night out at a nice restaurant then Benijofar and Benimar are only 20 minutes walk away or a 5 minute drive and offer some excellent choices with a selection of cuisines.
Formentera´s property market remains fairly good value compared to other areas and it is still possible to purchase a 2 bedroom apartment for 50,000€, with most of the apartments having been built within the last 10-15 years. They are well kept and normally come complete with communal pool and communal solarium – so with all that the village has to offer it really is a great place to live all year round or as a retreat for holidays.
If you would like any more information about Formentera, please get in touch as I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have.
